ADETS & Prime for Life
Monthly state-mandated Online ADETS Class NC & Prime for Life classes completed online via secure Zoom.
What is ADETS?
ADETS stands for Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School. It is a state-mandated, 16-hour educational program designed for individuals who have received a DWI but do not meet the clinical criteria for a substance use disorder. Breathe Wellness offers this program once monthly via convenient telehealth.
By utilizing the evidence-based Prime for Life curriculum, ADETS helps participants understand the risks associated with substance use, identify biological and psychological factors that influence addiction, and develop strategies to prevent future high-risk choices.
ADETS Eligibility Requirements
Not everyone qualifies for ADETS. Under North Carolina state law, you can only be recommended for the 16-hour ADETS program if you meet all of the following criteria during your initial DWI assessment:
- Your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was 0.14 or less at the time of the arrest.
- You did not refuse the breathalyzer or blood test.
- You have no prior DWI charges on your record.
- You did not meet the DSM-5 clinical criteria for a Substance Use Disorder during your assessment.
ADETS Course Fees & Registration
The costs associated with ADETS are strictly regulated by the state of North Carolina. To begin, you must register your class slot and pay fees online in advance to lock in your seat and receive the workbook materials.
- State-Regulated Class Fee: $160.00
- Prime For Life Book Fee: $25.00
- The total cost includes your final 508 electronic filing to the DMV.
